Ridley College, Canada

Co-educational boarding and day school for students from kindergarten to grade 12

Ridley College confers the International Baccalaureate and Ontario Secondary School diplomas. With students representing over 60 countries, Ridley is one of the oldest private schools in Canada, with the largest boarding program in Ontario. Ridley’s vision, “To inspire flourishing lives to transform our globe” informs all decisions made at this 131-year-old school. Defining “flourishing” as PERMA-V, based on the work of Dr. Martin Seligman and Emiliya Zhivotovskya, and proudly serving as North America’s first Visible Wellbeing School, supported by Dr. Lea Waters, the Ridley experience is founded on opportunities which act as pathways to flourishing.

Hanna Kidd, Lower School Counsellor

Sue Easton and Hanna Kidd have worked in international schools around the globe and love the commitment to positive education at Ridley.

Both are Flourishing Center CAPP graduates and proud PEC trainers; Hanna serves as a Visible Wellbeing facilitator. Seeing the difference positive education has made at Ridley fuels these two passionate educators.

>Presentation: Flourishing at Ridley College: From Vision to Reality

Ridley College will be used as a case-study for other schools on creating positive cultural change through a systems approach. By providing ongoing professional learning for all stakeholders, embedding positive psychology practices in all we do, and re-imagining our pastoral care program, we endeavour to realize our vision.
